Bucksport Veterans Memorial
Location: Monument Design and Construction Documents
Location: Bucksport, Maine
Scope of Work: Design and detail a masonry monument that will represent to respect and appreciation of the townspeople for those who have served our country.
Steve worked closely with American Legion Post 93 to create a memorial that would show the appropriate respect to those who have served and those who gave more than service. Multiple concepts were presented and the preferred concept was refined and detailed into construction drawings. The concept is layered in symbolism and it was the first monument in Maine to incorporate the 6th service branch, the Merchant Marine. Local granite is used in remembrance of the effort of local people, the “V” shape is for victory and valor, the alignment of service medallions and flags converge at the apex of the V for unity of mission, the arrangement of flags creates a heart for our appreciation and for those wounded, and nestled in the center of the monument are the engraved names of those who gave their lives, the “Field of Honor.” Installation: November 2009.
