Pine Street Sidewalk Improvements
Location: Construction Documents & Administration
Location: Town of Orono, Maine
Scope of Work: Context By Design was retained by the Town of Orono to develop construction documents for 1,200 LFT of new and replacement sidewalk in advance of the Town’s repaving of Pine Street.
The new walk replaced an at-grade asphalt shoulder with a 6” granite curb and concrete walkway. The project included an imprinted integral color concrete band as a prototype to correct the differential settlement and unwanted plant growth experienced in joints of the brick/paver banding found throughout the downtown. A unique element of the project was to add glass beads to the concrete surface and creating reflectorized end islands between the walk and stalls of the municipal parking lot. The project also included creation of four parallel parking spaces (2 ADA accessible) in front of the recently constructed Public Library.
Involvement included detailed construction document development, an estimate of probable construction costs, bid period assistance, and construction administration. The project was completed on time and on budget ($135,000 inclusive of design fees) in September 2010.
